Enough chicken for Christmas

The South West St Elizabeth member of parliament said that based on discussions with the main suppliers of chicken meat and baby chicks, stock on the market surpassed the production levels for the corresponding period in 2019.

Green was responding to a suggestion from his opposition counterpart, Lothan Cousins, that attention be paid to the availability of chicken on the island six weeks from Christmas.

"Christmas is coming and I know there is an increased demand for poultry meat ... I am being told by constituents and persons across Jamaica that they are now marrying the chickens with the feeding, so if you can't buy the amount of feeding for the 25 chickens, then you can't buy the chickens at all," Cousins said in the House of Representatives.
