High winds extending from the eyewall of the dangerous Hurricane Dean are battering the south of the island.

The centre of system is still in the vicinity of the southern the tip of St. Thomas.

The eye wall comprises powerful hurricane winds. Forecasters say the system is continuing to move to the west at 20 miles per hour. Hurricane Dean is still a category four with winds of 145 miles per hour. We are now getting reports that more and more persons are moving into shelters islandwide.
