Introduction
This publication is concerned with highlighting aspects of the likely effects
of the evolutionary process leading to establishment of the CSME. The aspects
are viewed from the vantage points of various observers, mostly academics,
who have made their analyses available. In traditional Caribbean, male
predominant style, the majority of the contributors are male. However we
were fortunate to secure a selection of papers for some of the Region’s eminent
academics of the feminine gender. The net result we expect is the achievement
of a kind of binocular disparity – the space perception richness of seeing with
two eyes as opposed to one. A part of that richness of perception will be
found in the views expressed about the gender dimensions of the implementation
of plans to establish the CSME.
The Cover Design encourages a focus on this binocular approach to
perceiving the emerging realities of travelling along paths to the CSME.
Hopefully, it will have prepared readers for the emphasis of the text on the
fundamental aspect of ensuring that concern about gender equity prevails in
our efforts at pursuing development and progress.
